The present investigation was done to develop ready to serve beverage from Palmyra palm (Borassus flabellifer Linn.) fruit pulp by optimizing the level of palmyra fruit pulp (PFP) and sugar through Central Composite Rotatable Design (CCRD) in Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The responses for optimization were acidity, pH, total soluble solids, total sugar, reducing sugar, non-reducing sugar, color, flavor, taste and after taste. A second order quadratic polynomial regression equation was fitted to the data for all responses to predict the level of PFP and sugar concentration. At linear level, the concentration of PFP significantly influenced the acidity (p<0.01), total soluble solids (p<0.01) and after taste score of ready to serve (RTS) beverage (p<0.05); the level of sugar had significant influence on the sensory attributes such as flavor (p<0.01), taste (p<0.01) and after taste of RTS beverage (p<0.05). The non-reducing sugar content of RTS beverage was negatively influenced (at p<0.05) by the interactive effect of PFP and sugar. At quadratic level, PFP had significant influence on acidity (p<0.01) and non-reducing sugar content of RTS beverage (p<0.05). The optimum level of PFP and sugar for the preparation of 100 ml of RTS beverage determined as per the set goals of 0.3% as maximum titrable acidity, 10% as minimum total soluble solids and 10% as minimum fruit pulp level with the desirability of 0.713 was 13.71 g and 18 g respectively.Keywords

Cloud computing, the information is permanently stored in servers in the internet. From there, the Cloud consumers utilize resources using Virtual Servers and they are charged based on pay-per-use basis. For this, Cloud providers offer two type of provisioning plans, namely On-demand and Reservation plan. They are also called as Short-term and Long-term plan respectively. In general, the reservation plan has minimum cost than on-demand plan. Although the reservation offers the discounted usage price, this option could result in over provisioning and under provisioning problems due to demand uncertainty. Our challenge is to how efficiently use the resource provisioning options under the uncertainty of price and demand. In order to achieve this, we use the Reservation Technique for Under and Over Provisioning (RTUOP) algorithm in the cloud broker. This will minimize the total resource provisioning cost under uncertainties.Keywords

A few advanced lecture browsers synchronize text with lecture video and also allow search within the transcript. However, these systems are of little use if for instance, a student wants to quickly scan the contents of a particular lecture among a series of lectures. So this project proposes a system that can automatically generate and display section-wise annotations using lecture transcripts. This approach uses a simpler keyphrase-based annotation technique, which functionally strikes a middle ground between detailed annotation and basic video tagging. It uses a supervised machine learning algorithm, based on a Naive-Bayes classifier to extract relevant keyphrases. The goal of keyphrase extraction is to generate an optimal set of phrases appearing in the lecture, which best summarizes its content. The project has shown that a combination of automatic keyphrase extraction and segmentation enhances the functionality of a lecture browser system.Keywords

One of the open problems in (Wireless Sensor Networks) WSN environment is security of sensor data. It is due to malicious nodes. In WSN environment there is no continuous network connectivity. The possibility of messages being successfully transmitted is very limited. In this paper a design was developed to validate a dynamic trust management (DTM) using two way handshaking for secure optimization in WSN environment. The generated data of WSN is to be collected in a secure, efficient and scalable manner if the information is lost then there is no need for the source to transmit the message again. During the transfer of packets from one node to another there is intermediate node storage facility which allows the packet information to be stored in previous node itself. This will facilitate the packets to be send without any loss of data in WSN.The privacy preservation of the data will also be ensured. And this will improve the overall security of the proposed system.Keywords

Objectives: To develop an application in order to make the examination process easier for the visually impaired and also to reduce the conventional examination setup overheads. Methods: The conversion of text to speech and vice versa has been carried out by existing modules in the android platform. Adaptive examination is carried out based on performance analysis of the candidate by assessing the cognitive ability (reaction time) which is implemented through the concept of time stamping. Findings: The equation formulated for making the examination adaptive, returned authentic and error proof values which could be used for setting the difficulty of the consequent sections of the question paper, by comparison with predetermined ideal performance value. Also it was evident that the setup process was relatively simpler than a pen-paper examination setup. The speech rate of the audio module had to be personalized according to the candidate’s requirement. By incorporating the changes and handling the runtime glitches, it was found that application made the examination process hassle-free for visually impaired students. Improvements/Applications: Objective analysis of cognitive ability has been made possible through the newly formulated equation. The result obtained can be applied in multiple domains.Keywords

Objectives: The primary objective of the paper is to propose an optimized data extraction technique to obtain data from the Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs)using ‘Sensor Head Algorithm’ and Data Fusion. Methods/Statistical Analysis: The proposed idea works in a three-layered architecture which includes the deployed sensors, the selected Sensor Head and the Static Data Sink. The Sensor Head Algorithm is used to select a sensor head that collects data from all sensors. The Data Fusion algorithm results in generation of unified data which is used to derive the output. Finally, the fused data is transmitted from the Sensor Head to the Static Data sink. Findings: A sample data was used to verify the working of the model using simulations. On the application of Sensor Head Algorithm, the sensors are assigned priorities on the basis of their residual energies. The sensor with highest residual energy becomes the Sensor Head. All the sensors transmit their data to the Sensor Head where the Data Fusion takes place later. Data Fusion initially removes redundancy in from the collected data making the processing simpler and saving the energy. The resultant data is then used to generate fused inference using Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC). These inferences are recorded and later used to generate final output. The proposed idea ensures reduction of load on the system, simplifies the previously proposed methods, reduces latency in data collection and improves network lifetime. This data, finally transmitted to the static data sink, can be used for finding inferences or reaching a conclusion about the target area in the desired way. Application/Improvements: In the current paper, we have proposed an idea which we shall use to develop a fully functional model. Since, the proposed technique is concerned with data extraction, it can be applied to every situation where the Wireless Sensor Network is deployed.Keywords

Off-label is defined as any drug use outside the terms of product license; while the unlicensed use refers to using a drug in children when it has not received marketing authorization for use in them. The objective of the study was to determine the attitude and experience of community pharmacists towards off-label and unlicensed prescriptions for the pediatric population. This study was carried out as a prospective observational study for a period of six months at the community pharmacies in and around Chennai. Validated questionnaire to assess the attitude and experience of community pharmacists towards unlicensed and off-label prescriptions for the paediatric population was given to those community Pharmacists who have registered in the State Pharmacy Council as Pharmacist. Questionnaires issued were self administered by the community pharmacists and the answers recorded by them were collected and then assessed. Over 70% of respondents were familiar with the concept of off-label prescribing, primarily through dispensing experience rather than education. Over 60% of respondents had been asked by the public to sell paediatric over-the-counter medicines, such as antihistamines, analgesics and steroid preparations for off-label use. Most common off-label drug was paracetamol being 32% (BNFC) of all prescribed in this manner. Most common information sources was British national formulary for children (BNFC), Current index medical specialities(CIMS) and local formularies. The majority of respondents (74%) admitted to being familiar with the concept of off-label prescribing .The majority of respondents, 88% agreed or strongly agreed that the pharmacist has a responsibility to inform the prescriber that they are prescribing off-label medicines for children, and 32% unsure that pharmacist also has a responsibility to inform the parents that the medicines prescribed for their children are off-label. Dispensing labeled and licensed drugs in pediatric patients should be promoted among the community pharmacist as well as pediatricians in order to avoid exposing children to unnecessary risk. Participation in Continuing Medical Education should be encouraged among community pharmacist to keep their knowledge updated.Keywords

The objective of the study was to compare the quality of life (QOL) in men and women with diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) using RAND-36 Questionnaire and also to improve their quality of life by structured patient education. The study was designed to be a cross sectional study in which 82 men and 78 women with diabetic foot ulcer were enrolled. Socio-demographic variables were documented and assessed using RAND SF-36 a questionnaire for all subjects. RAND SF-36 scale scores were compared using statistical descriptive and analytical method. QOL was found to be worse in women when compared to men. Out of 160 study participants, 51% were male and 48 % were female with a mean (+ SD) age of 45 (+3) and 43 (± 7.3) respectively. The QOL score analysis demonstrated that the physical health was subsequently limited due to physical activity (p<0.0001) and pain (p<0.0001) with a significant difference between men and women. However, analyzing the social functioning scores of the subjects showed a non-significant relationship of p value (0.7133) and general health (p=0. 3427). Although on further evaluation, the scores of emotional well being and energy scores of the patient showed a significant difference with a p value of <0.0001 and 0.0004 respectively. The correlation between the age and physical function exhibited a significant difference between the genders (p<0.0001). Female patients with DFU had a lower score for quality of life when all the 8 domains in RAND SF-36 questionnaire were assessed. Adapting patient educational programs and appropriate life style modifications can improve the quality of life in these patients.Keywords
